SMC Volunteer Program

Shawano Medical Center Volunteers support the hospital and its patients by donating their time and talents. Volunteers come from all age groups and a variety of cultural, social, and professional backgrounds.

Volunteers help with patients, families, and staff. They plant flowers and deliver cards. They give people in the community a life-saving vial of information for emergency services. They talk with families. They make a difference.

Volunteers at Shawano Medical Center work with patients and in clerical positions. We match the position to the volunteer’s skills.

To become a volunteer, you'll need an interview, background check, health screening, and orientation. We’ll train you! Applicants need to be at least 14 years old and in good health. If you have a strong desire to help others, please call Elaine Gast, Volunteer Coordinator at (715) 526-7207 to set up an interview.

Hospice Volunteers

Hospice volunteers spend about 4 hours a week helping terminally ill patients and their families. The program is open to adults (age 18 and over). Training is provided. Volunteers are interviewed before and after the training to make sure the Hospice Volunteer Program fits their needs, interests, and abilities. For more information, contact the Pat Wright, Hospice Volunteer Coordinator, at (715) 524-2169.
